New Adventures...

Well, before we left for Virginia, we found out about a job opening at a high school in Salt Lake for a temporary position of Automotive Shop teacher while the current teacher goes to Afghanistan. Because of his bachelors degree in Automotive Technology and the years of experience working as a mechanic, we knew that Travis could get his teaching license the alternate route if he got a job teaching his subject. So we figured this job would be the perfect opportunity for him. (On a side note, because we had read, "The Jack Rabbit Factor" by Leslie Householder, Travis had written down a goal a few months previous that in January he would be teaching high school auto shop-his dream! TOTALLY recommend that book if you want to accomplish your dreams by the way.) So Travis applied for the job and even called the principal to find out more details, and if he would be interested in hiring an alternate route teacher. And he said he would if he had the qualifications for it. So a few days after we got back from Virginia, Travis called the principal, and he said that Travis was one in three to be interviewed. Travis said he could go up to Salt Lake if he wanted, but the principal said that a phone interview would be fine. So the interview was set for the next week. Travis said that it was probably the best interview he'd ever had... And on Friday, Jan. 15th, we found out that Travis got the job! It was so amazingly AWESOME! We're so thankful for this HUGE blessing! The thing was that the job started on Jan. 25th! and goes until the end of the school year 2011. But we had to get Travis up to Salt Lake the very next week. He had two days to talk to the other teacher and get himself situated, and then he was on his own on the 25th. WOW!!! So we all went up to Salt Lake for a week, and because of the awesome generosity of Travis' aunt Corinne, we stayed at her house. We all hung out and even looked for houses. We almost bought one, but then it just didn't feel right. We figured that since this job is temporary, we don't know where we'll end up next year, we figured that we should just find an apartment until we know where we will be more permanently. We are sure we'll be taken care of after this assignment.

So Travis has his level 1 teaching license, and order to advance to level 2, he has to take some classes, and inservices, and take the praxis and a few other things. But it's sure nice for him to have a full time job with benefits, and we don't have to worry about what he was going to do with going to school (it would've taken another 1.5 years) and student teaching where he doesn't get paid. So needless to say, we are sure thankful for our blessings and this opportunity. And I am glad to say that Travis has found where he truly wants to be, and actually enjoys his job everyday! It has been nice to go see him at work in his shop and his classroom, and office. He enjoys working with the kids, and teaching them, and learning to be a teacher by jumping right in. Don't get me wrong, he was nervous about jumping right in, but he sure enjoys himself much better than he did before.

So after we all spent a week in Salt Lake, Travis took us back down to St. George, where we got ready to move while Travis went back to Salt Lake, and he actually found our apartment. I spent the whole month of February apart from Travis (except for Valentines Day weekend) getting ready to move...again...

This was the third time moving in less than a year, and the eighth time moving in our 5.5 year marriage.... Yay...
We moved to a brand new apartment in Midvale on Feb. 27th, ready for even more adventures!
